Under the slogan “Give the best of you. Donate blood at the TRAMvida”, TRAM is providing one of its vehicles to give the Blood and Tissue Bank of Catalonia an exceptional location to receive blood donors, right in the heart of the city. For the seventh year running, the TRAMvida tram will be stationed at the Francesc Macià stop on Friday 15 September, from 11 am to 8 pm.

More donations required to cover patients’ needs

The aim of the campaign is to continue to increase the number of blood donations and to reach new volunteers. Some 1,000 donations are needed every day to ensure that all the patients admitted to clinics and hospitals have enough blood for their treatment. This is the equivalent of four to five trams full of donors.
Today in Catalonia there are just over 5,500 units of blood in the blood banks. This number should ideally be around 8,000, which is why campaigns like this one are needed to ensure that blood stocks are replenished and available to anyone who requires blood.

Appointment form

In order to avoid long queues at the stop and inside the TRAMvida, it is advisable to make an appointment on the website of the Blood and Tissue Bank of Catalonia, at www.donarsang.gencat.cat/tram.

In order to turn a tram into a donation centre, the poles, grab handles and seats have been removed from inside the vehicle to open up the space for the installation of trolleys and fridges and to make enough room for the blood donors and health workers.

Give the best of you

It is important to remember that voluntary donation is the only way that the blood needed to treat patients can be obtained. It is possible to donate blood more than once a year – women can donate up to three times and men up to four times.

At least three people benefit from each blood donation, as each bag is processed to obtain red blood cell, platelet and plasma concentrates. All these blood components expire after a few days, which is why regular donations are needed. In 2022, a total of 282 people benefited from TRAMVida donations.

The TRAM blood donation campaign is being carried out once again this year with the collaboration of the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Blood and Tissue Bank, the Metropolitan Transport Authority and Alstom. All those who donate blood on the tram stationed at the Francesc Macià stop will receive a gift from TRAM.
